What is ACES?
The ACES development team with input from emergency managers, identified
a minimum set of skills that are required of all operators regardless of
served agency and created a training package. The goal is to create
operators who can participate in an incident and function as volunteer
professionals, rather than be seen as amateurs. This course has been
delivered to nearly 1000 operators since 2009 and has recently been
dramatically updated for easier delivery, updated content and more
interactivity.

ACES has a mission of supporting emergency communications partners by
promoting a standard for training, certification, and accreditation of
operators. The focus is on amateur radio used in an auxiliary capacity
(as required by FCC rules) but includes discussion of other
communications systems used by served agencies. More information can be
found at http://www.OregonACES.org/content/faq.

What will be taught?
The ACES basic level training will be taught January 13-14, 2023 in
Bremerton. We have well qualified and ACES certified, local trainers
who will help deliver this material. The course consists of 13 hours of
classroom training and additional practical, hands-on demonstration and
an exam. A complete outline for the course can be found at
http://www.oregonaces.org/content/basic-certification.

Who should attend?
We welcome both local attendees and those from other jurisdictions. The
goal is to expand the offerings to other groups, much the way the ICS
classes are taught.

opportunity.
