The following information about an upcoming Auxiliary Communications
Emergency Solutions Course was received from Scott Honaker, N7SS. ACES
is an outstanding course of instruction that exposes students to nearly
all aspects of Emergency Communications (EMCOMM) a volunteer
communicator will encounter. This course provides training in a brief
time that took many of us older EMCOMM practitioners years to
accumulate. Please note there are prerequisite courses that are
available online and can be completed in about two hours or less each.
ICS 100, ICS 200, and ICS 700 online courses can be found at:

https://training.fema.gov/emi.aspx

“Very little of the amateur licensing materials focus on emergency
communications. The ACES Basic course is intended to support our
emergency communications partners by promoting a standard for training
and certification of amateur radio operators. The in-person course is
generally delivered over a weekend and with both classroom materials and
exercises. This virtual version is broken into smaller sessions and
will cover the same content and exercises. The material is designed to
be compatible with the FEMA AUXCOMM program and is an excellent
preparation for the AUXCOMM course.

The Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council (NTEMC) is sponsoring
an ACES Basic certification course. This course will be held online
with new, updated content and will require a device that can provide
video and audio with Zoom. The course fee is $20 per student and
includes an electronic version of the student workbook. IS-100, 200 and
700 ICS courses are required prior to certification. You may take the
class if you haven’t completed the FEMA courses and you will receive a
completion certificate when you complete the FEMA courses. Students are
required to bring a radio and manual for manual programming practice.
Pre-registration is required. This class is open to all, however,
tribal members will be given priority for seats should the class fill.
Please enter your tribal affiliation (if any) in the Comments section of
the signup page. Contact Scott N7SS at scott.n7ss@gmail.com with

Course registration is available on the ACES web site at

all eight sessions to receive a certificate.
